Breast Asymmetry Correction

Breast asymmetry is more common in women than we think. When we take a casual look at our breasts, it may look perfectly symmetrical. But on a closer look, we find our breasts so asymmetrical.

Breast asymmetrical correction is a procedure to correct the breasts through customized procedures. The surgeon may either increase or decrease the size of the breasts, reposition to make both the breasts symmetrical and lift any of the breasts which may be drooping more than the other.

Who Can Go for Breast Asymmetry Correction?

The breast asymmetry correction procedure is suited only for specific patients. The right candidate for breast asymmetry correction may have one or more of the following conditions:

● One of the breasts is lower than the other.
● One of the breasts is larger than the other.
● The breasts aren’t symmetrically placed and directed.
● One of the breasts has lost its firmness.

A Few Points to Keep in Mind About

The surgical procedure may be needed on one breast or both breasts depending on the severity of the asymmetry .

● The breast asymmetry correction procedure may also involve breast lifts. But this wouldn’t likely be a permanent solution as the breasts can start drooping as you age.

● It is not advisable to go for breast asymmetry correction if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

● If you have any plans of dieting, losing or gaining weight, it’s advisable to do so. Breast asymmetry correction performed at your optimal weight offers the best results.

● If you are a smoker, you should stop smoking for at least four to six weeks before the surgery.

● You can only go for this procedure if your breasts are fully developed.

What Happens Before Surgery?

You should furnish all the required medical details to the surgeon before the surgery. It will help the surgeon to understand your health conditions and advise the best course of treatment and medications to aid the procedure.

Medications
The surgeon may also advise you against taking any naturopathic medicines and any other blood-thinning medicines you’re currently taking. Make sure to talk to the surgeon about any medications you are on and get advice on continually using them.

Scans and Preparation
The surgeon will also ask you to go through a set of scans to observe your current conditions and match them with the results.

What Happens During the Breast Asymmetry Correction Surgery?

On the day of the surgery, you will be taken to a separate operation room.\

● The surgeon will administer general or local anesthesia to ensure that you are comfortable throughout the procedure.

● Soon after the effect of anesthesia kicks in, the surgeon will begin making the incisions at the predetermined locations depending on the aim of the surgery.

● The surgeon will create breast pockets if you want to enlarge the breasts or will remove the excess tissue and relocate the nipple if you are going for a breast lift.

● After making the required modifications, the surgeon will stitch back the incisions and move you into observation.

What Happens After Surgery?

For the first few after the surgery, you will see swelling, bruising and, in some cases, discolouration around the operated regions. The bruising will reduce in a few weeks, but it will take a few months for the swelling to vanish completely.

Sutures and Incisions
Two weeks after the surgery, you may have to visit the surgeon to remove sutures and stitch the incisions. The surgeon will advise you on the precautionary measures you need to adapt to keep the incisions safe.

Returning to Normal Life
You can return to your work in a week or so if your work is sedentary. If not, it’s best to go with the advice of the surgeon. Usually, it will take more than a month for you to resume normal activities. Even so, you cannot engage in any rigorous physical work and exercising that could damage the incisions. Typically, it takes more than six weeks for the incisions to heal completely, after which you can slowly increase the extent of your exercise after consulting the surgeon.

Effect of Actual Results
As mentioned, it takes a long time for the swelling to subsidize totally. Until then, you cannot properly know the complete results of the surgery. This recovery period can take anywhere from two months to six months or even more in some cases.

Wrapping Up

Breast asymmetry correction is a customized procedure to help women to get their confidence back about their appearance. You can make both of your breasts similar in many ways, which involve treating either one or both the breasts. You may also combine this surgery with any other breast-related cosmetic procedure like breast augmentation, breast lift or breast reduction.
